Alex Winwood is a professional boxer and proud Noongar man from Western Australia, known for his speed, precision, and relentless pressure in the ring. A six-time national amateur champion, Alex represented Australia at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, two AIBA World Championships, and the 2022 Commonwealth Games, where he earned a reputation for his resilience and technical skill.
After a decorated amateur career, Alex turned professional in 2022. He made an immediate impact, winning the WBC International Light Flyweight Title in just his second fight and later capturing the WBC International Strawweight Title. In 2024, he became the first Noongar boxer to contest a world title, going the distance in a hard-fought bout against an eight-time world champion in Perth.
Alex’s fighting style is aggressive yet calculated - combining elite footwork with sharp combinations and a relentless work rate. He has competed across minimumweight and light flyweight, with victories over former world champions and top-ranked international opponents.
Beyond the ring, Alex is a cultural ambassador and role model. He was named 2024 NAIDOC Sportsperson of the Year and is an active participant in the AIS “Share a Yarn” program, using his platform to connect with and inspire Indigenous youth. His family legacy includes renowned artist Primus Ugle and former professional boxer Brian Bennell.
