AJ Aukuso Ailolo-Asalele is a versatile forward and centre with experience in both rugby union and league. With a relentless drive and deep family roots, he’s a rising talent with representative honours for Counties Manukau Rugby.

Humble, driven, and ready to give 110% — every game, every time
AJ, known to most as “Duso” or “Kuso,” grew up in Manurewa, South Auckland, in a proud Samoan family. His journey has been shaped by resilience and gratitude, especially for the sacrifices made by his father. After attending De La Salle College and Manurewa High School, AJ began carving out his path in rugby.
His rugby journey began at Karaka Rugby Club from U6s to U11s, followed by De La Salle College in 2018. He represented Manurewa High School in the U15s and 2XV from 2021 to 2024, and currently plays for Weymouth Rugby Club U19s and Casey Crusaders U18s. A major milestone came in 2023 when he earned selection for the Counties Manukau representative side — a proud moment after years of perseverance.
AJ is known for his physicality, versatility, and game awareness, excelling as a centre, flanker, and second-rower. His short-term goals include improving fitness, refining positional skills, and gaining more game experience. Long-term, he dreams of representing Samoa or Australia on the international stage and inspiring others to chase their dreams with everything they’ve got.
Influenced by role models like Ardie Savea and Brian To’o, AJ admires their humility and leadership. He thrives in team runs and game-day preparations, and off the field, he values time with family above all else. AJ remains focused on his athletic development and personal growth.
