Biography

Ebony Sotheren–Hatton is a strong and determined rugby league forward recognised for her physicality, resilience, and deep connection to culture and community. Playing primarily through the middle in the front row, second row, or lock, she brings a powerful running game, defensive toughness, and strong work ethic to her team.

Born in Darwin and raised across the Northern Territory, Townsville, and Brisbane, Ebony developed her passion for rugby league from a young age. She is a proud Yori Yori, Larrakia, Bundjalung and Wiradjuri woman, and her cultural identity plays a central role in her journey both on and off the field.

Throughout her development, Ebony balanced school, work, and rugby league commitments, including travelling interstate during her senior schooling to compete at a higher level. Her time playing in Sydney competitions while completing Year 12 demonstrated her commitment, independence, and drive to pursue rugby league seriously.

Her playing journey has taken her across multiple states, including representative honours in Indigenous pathways and experience within elite development systems such as the North Sydney Bears, St George, and Townsville Blackhawks programs. She has also competed at senior level, including in Sydney and currently in Brisbane with Wynnum Manly in the Women’s BRL competition.

Now based in Brisbane, Ebony continues to build her rugby league career while working in healthcare as an Assistant in Nursing and pursuing her long-term goal of becoming a qualified nurse. Her ability to balance professional responsibilities with high-performance sport reflects her discipline and commitment.

With clear ambitions of earning an NRLW contract, Ebony is focused on developing consistency at senior level, improving her conditioning, and establishing herself as a reliable middle forward. She brings not only physical presence but purpose, pride, and resilience to every opportunity she earns.
