Biography

Kyle Bader’s 2025 season with the North Queensland Cowboys U20s showcased his evolution into a high-impact edge forward. A big improver, Bader also led the Townsville Blackhawks U19s pack with an unrelenting workrate and a unique skill set that set him apart in elite junior competition.

Initially developed as a prop or lock, Kyle found his stride as a right-edge back-rower, where his line running and ballplaying created consistent success out wide. His size and build give him a physical edge, but it’s his motor — comparable to a hooker’s — and his soft hands, reminiscent of Wade Graham, that make him a standout. Stylish and tireless, he brings both grit and creativity to the game.

Born in Katherine, NT, Kyle’s journey has been shaped by sacrifice, consistency, and leadership. He was a key figure in the Kirwan Bears’ 2024 Aaron Payne Cup Grand Final win and remains contracted to the Townsville Mendi Blackhawks U19s. As well as his breakout season with the Cowboys U20s, representative honours include North Queensland U18s, NTNRL All Stars, and the Clontarf U19 State of Origin team.

Kyle’s leadership qualities are backed by years of captaincy experience, including leading the NT Titans Schoolboys at the National Championships. Off the field, he’s known for his humility and service — regularly refereeing junior matches and coaching younger players. He’s also academically focused, with plans to study physiotherapy alongside his pursuit of an NRL career.

With his versatility, work ethic, and growing exposure to elite systems, Kyle Bader is building momentum and setting the tone for what’s possible for young athletes from regional and remote Australia.
