Skye-Yvette Faimalie

Rugby League and Rugby Union, Front Rower

Sky-Yvette Faimalie is a remarkable 17-year-old rugby prodigy whose talent has made waves in both rugby union and rugby league. Born in New Zealand’s North Island, Faimalie’s passion for rugby began at a young age, inspired by the All Blacks and influenced by powerful players like Ardie Savea. After moving to Redbank, Australia, at the age of four, Faimalie started her rugby journey with the Springfield Hawks junior rugby club before enrolling at Ipswich State High School, where she further honed her skills.

In 2024, Faimalie had a standout year representing the Brisbane Tigers Under-17s, followed by her selection for the Queensland City side. Her impact was further felt in the StoreLocal Premier Women’s competition, where she played for the Sunnybank Dragons, competing against older, more experienced players. Despite being one of the youngest on the field, Faimalie thrived as a middle forward, making a powerful contribution to the team as a front-row player.

Faimalie’s leadership abilities shone through as she captained the Ipswich SHS Opens Girls team, consistently playing 70 minutes of intense club rugby. Her dedication to the sport, combined with her natural athleticism, has earned her respect among her peers, even when playing alongside or against seasoned players.

With a bright future ahead, Faimalie continues to learn from mentors like Ana Afuie, the reigning Selena Worsley Medal-winning scrumhalf. She views Afuie as a role model and credits her for shaping her rugby journey. As she forges ahead, Faimalie’s determination and skill make her a rising star in the rugby world, with endless potential in both rugby union and league.
